Senate
Minority Leader Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) released the following statement
yesterday regarding the closure of 11 compounding pharmaceutical companies in
Massachusetts due to serious violations found by the Department of Public
Health. The announced closures come in the wake of a meningitis outbreak
linked to the New England Compounding Company in Framingham that has resulted
in the death of at least 45 people across the nation:
“The
disturbing results of these inspections, and the need for regulators to force
the closure of all or part of 11 compounding pharmacies, are further evidence
of another systemic failure of oversight by state government. If the
current system tolerated this degree of regulatory noncompliance, then clearly,
it’s time for serious reform.”
